Sell software or downloads online

This is the playbook behind The Sound of Deez plugin store. The product is the maker’s craft. Our job is everything that turns it into something the public can find, try, buy and unlock.

The pieces, in build order

1. Make it look the part
Buyers judge software by its face. Polish every panel and screen to match the maker’s vision before anything else.
2. Let them see and hear it
Give every product its own page with the real interface and a demo. Cinematic video sells what a screenshot can’t.
3. Checkout
A trusted card checkout (we use Stripe), with single items and bundles. Bundles lift the average order.
4. Delivery
After paying, the buyer lands on a download page. For free items, trade the download for an email, which grows the mailing list.
5. Licences
Tie each licence to one computer. The software shows a Machine ID, and the buyer unlocks it on your site.
6. The admin portal
One place for the owner to see every sale, download, licence and signup, and to help a customer who’s stuck.

Get these right

  • Never hold a paid download hostage to a broken email step. Deliver first, then follow up.
  • Give licence unlocks a real menu inside the software, not a hidden field.
  • Track a click on Buy as the intent to buy, and only count a sale once the payment clears.
  • Keep prices in one place, so the site, checkout and admin never disagree.
Who did what
On The Sound of Deez, Shaun built the plugin engines and the sound. We did the plugin looks, the 3D 4K cinematics, the store, downloads, payments and the whole admin portal.
